Autumn Beckons

**FLYING CONDITIONS: Mostly Sunny; Windy**

"The World is changed.
I feel it in the water,
I feel it in the earth,
I smell it, in the air."

The air is cool in the morning. The wind is picking up. The sun shines at a low angle in the late afternoon, and the skies are definitely bluer. Autumn is coming and I can't wait. I've had a whole slew of posts rattling around in my brain, and now I'll finally get to share them. I hope you enjoy them all!

Favorite Books No. 1

The Witch of Blackbird Pond
by Elizabeth George Speare

Years ago, when I was around 9 or so, I found this book among the collection of assorted books my family owned. I don't know who originally purchased it, but I was intrigued. I ALWAYS had a fascination with "spooky" things, so the title called to my imagination. I expected the book to be more supernatural in nature, which of course it is not, but I fell in love with the story immediately.

As a child, I always felt different from others. I was artsy, dramatic of mind and liked strange things. I felt an affinity with the free-spirited main character of Kit, who was an outsider in the strict, Puritan, 1670's community of Whethersfield, Connecticut.

Kit's struggles and eventual happiness let me know that it was ok to be different and that I could be happy doing so. Furthermore, my love for this book was sealed because it took place a time period that fascinated me - late 17th century America, the era of the Witch Trials.

In short, I was and have remained bewitched!

A friend of mine recently published a list on her blog that names her Top 10 Summer Fragrances. (She is a walking perfume database!) I am unable to do this because I simply don't have the knowledge of the frangrances that are available. I am EXTREMELY picky when it comes to perfume buying, so I tend towards wearing time-tested favorites. In addition, I generally don't frequent the stores that may carry the more exclusive scents.

However, I am currently out of "good" perfume and it bothers me everday.

Here is what I'm missing:

Todd Oldham:

Top Notes:
Kiwi, mango and cucumber.
Middle notes: violet, tuberose and nutmeg
Base: patchouli, vetiver and vanilla.

Top Notes: Oceanic, floral mixture of lily and broom.
Middle Notes: Wallflower and peony.
Base Notes: amber and lichen.

Hypnotic Poison:

Notes: Almond, caraway and jasmine, with moss, sandalwood, oakmoss, vanilla, musk and cedar.

Corpse Parts

Although they turned out quite nicely, I'm not in awe of any of the completed corpses I've worked on lately (God, that sounds strange), so I'm only posting my contributed panels. The complete corpses can be viewed at An Exquisite Corpse, in the archives.

DVDs I can view Over and Over and Over... No. 1

**FLYING CONDITIONS: Mostly Sunny; Breezy**

I love this movie. I can suspend disbelief quite easily so the whole "twist" doesn't bother me at all. In fact, I think the whole scene from beginning (reflection in the tv screen) to the end of the movie is one of the lovliest examples of soundtrack/editing synchronicity I've ever seen.

I'm not a film critic - I just love it, love it, love it. This movie gives me hope that I can accomplish my goals, not matter what the odds. I always feel better after watching Signs.

Here is my take on Shyamalan's films: People expect them to be "scary." Honestly, the never scare me. I think his movies are marketed wrongly towards the horror-thriller crowd. Yes, he uses unusual premises, but really, his films are about more classic issues. The Sixth Sense is about acceptance of who you are. Unbreakable focuses on that as well, but adds the idea of balance. Signs is about faith and synchronicity and The Village is about how one deals with fear.

I love Shyamalan movies, so there!

Happy Birthday to my wonderful husband!

You're a man like none other.

I love you.

P.S. - The cake may be fit for a king, but it was a royal pain in the ass to make!
Ah well, I tried my best and it is what it is. (The candle "tower" counts as the 7th level!)

**FLYING CONDITIONS: Partly Sunny; Breezy**

I've been in a bit of a "Late Summer Slump" energetically and emotionally. All I really want it to be is Autumn. I don't like the idea of wishing my life away, so I am trying to focus on the pleasures of late summer. Sunflowers always cheer me up!

Here are a few wonderful sunflower paintings that I found online.

Irritate your man with movies, y'all - No. 3

**FLYING CONDITIONS: Humid and Hazy**

Eat gumbo. Drink Bloody Mary's. Wear an outlandish hat and watch Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood.

If he resists, gaze toward heaven, clasp your hands together and recite the following prayer until he submits:

"Dear Mary, mother of the motherless, change this man's heart so that he may bear witness to the goodness and wisdom of the Almighty Ya-Yas."

I think Indian weddings are spectacular. The attire is fabulous and the tradition of Mehndi (henna tattoo) is amazing.

1. delight
2. festivity
3. marriage
4. matrimony

Following are some pics I found of bridal Mehndi. I also including pics of some wedding attire from a company called Pramanik. So fabulous! I'd really like to own a sari like these.
